Container / TEU
The following figure shows the total volume of imports, exports, and domestic freight handled by each of the top 25 container ports by loaded twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) in 2022.
The top 25 container ports handled a total of 44 million loaded TEU in 2022.
Foreign imports accounted for 67% of the TEU, exports accounted for 24%, and domestic accounted for 9%. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey handled the most loaded TEU, followed by the Port of Los Angeles. The port that handled the most domestic TEU was Honolulu. [1]
