National Ferry Operators Database
The National Ferry Database contains the comprehensive data results of the National Census of Ferry Operators (NCFO). The database is divided into 5 datasets. The most common identifier among all the datasets is OPERATOR_ID. The exception to this is the segments file. The Methodology section at the end of the page gives a comprehensive overview of who is included in the data and how to interpret the data.

2020 NCFO Results
The following datasets are the results of the 2020 NCFO. The data captured by the 2020 NCFO represent calendar year 2019 operational data from the 164 (67%) of known U.S. ferry operators that completed the census.
2020 Ferry Operators
Ferry Operators contains the complete list of ferry operators that responded to the 2020 NCFO. It also provides information on company location, identifies passenger trip purpose and funding information.
2020 Ferry Vessels (by Operator)
Ferry Vessels (by operator) contains the list of vessels reported by operator. This list of vessels is not unique, as there are several vessels that are serviced by more than one operator and will be listed more than once. Ferry vessels (by operator) contains the names, United States Coast Guard (USCG) identifier, in-service status, vessel characteristics, as well as the associated type of ownership and operation.
2020 Ferry Terminals (by Operator)
Ferry Terminals (by operator) contains the list of terminals reported by operator. This list of terminals is not unique, as there are several terminals that are serviced by more than one operator and will be listed more than once. Ferry Terminals (by operator) contains the name, location, intermodal connectors, as well as the associated type of ownership and operation.
2020 Ferry Operator Segments
Ferry Operator Segments contains the list of segments reported by operator. This list of segments is not unique, as there are several segments that are serviced by more than one operator and will be listed more than once. Ferry Segments (by operator) identifies the terminals that it services, the time of year that it is operational, the length of the segment, the vessels that operate on the segment, as well as the ridership of passengers and vehicles.
2020 Ferry Segments
Ferry Segments is a listing of unique segments reported in 2020. Ferry Segments identifies the type of segment (intrastate, interstate, or international) and if it serves an National Park Service site.
2020 Ferry Segments serving National Parks
This is a selection of segments which serve National Parks. It consists of the 132 out of 963 segments (13.7 percent) which serve these parks.
